About Us

Hi! We're Learn the Basics ๐Ÿ‘‹

A passion project to make artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts accessible, fun, and exciting for elementary and middle school students.

Our Mission ๐ŸŽฏ

AI is the most important technology of this generation, but most resources explaining it are written for adults โ€” full of jargon, math, and intimidating terminology. We believe kids deserve better.

Our mission is simple: make AI, machine learning, and the whole world of intelligent computing understandable to a curious 10-year-old. Every article on this site uses plain language, fun analogies (like comparing neural networks to a brain or AI agents to a robot helper), and visual diagrams that turn abstract concepts into pictures kids can actually grasp.

๐Ÿ“š What we cover

We focus on core topics in modern Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) โ€” what it is and isn't
  • Machine Learning (ML) โ€” the three main types and key algorithms
  • Neural Networks โ€” anatomy and famous architectures
  • Deep Learning โ€” why "deep" matters and what it powers
  • Generative AI (GenAI) โ€” how AI creates new content
  • Large Language Models (LLMs) โ€” including GPT, Claude, Gemini
  • AI Agents โ€” the types from simple to advanced

Who It's For ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

We built this site primarily for:

That said, we've heard from plenty of adults who use the site too โ€” because sometimes the simplest explanation is the best one. No shame in that!

How We Built This Site ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

This entire site was created by a parent who watched their own child get curious about AI but couldn't find materials at the right level. Every article is:

๐ŸŒฑ Our promise We will never water down the science to be cute. Kids deserve real, accurate information โ€” just delivered in a way that respects their intelligence and matches their reading level.

What Makes Us Different ๐ŸŒŸ

There are lots of websites about AI. Here's what we do that most don't:

๐ŸŽจ Visual-first design

Every concept gets a diagram. We use SVG illustrations, color-coded sections, and emoji not as decoration but as cognitive anchors that help kids remember what they read.

๐Ÿง  Real analogies

"Neural networks are like a brain" is too vague. We say "each neuron is a kid deciding whether to raise their hand based on how convincing the evidence is." That's specific enough to stick.

๐Ÿš€ Structured Learning

Our content maps to core concepts in AI and Machine Learning. Includes cheat sheets, diagrams, and 50+ practice questions designed to test knowledge.

๐Ÿ’Ž Printable extras

Every guide on the site is free to read. For offline study, we offer a printable cheat sheet and an illustrated book.

Our Editorial Standards โœ๏ธ

Because we're teaching kids, accuracy matters even more. Our standards:

Get Involved ๐Ÿค

Have feedback? Found an error? Want to suggest a topic? Have a kid who could share their feedback? Drop us a note on the contact page โ€” we read every message.

If you're a teacher who wants to use these materials in your classroom, please do! Our guides are designed to be excellent resources for educational use. We'd love to hear how it goes.
